Tancredo Neves
Tancredo Neves was a prominent Brazilian politician and lawyer who became the first civilian president of Brazil after 21 years of military dictatorship, elected in 1985. His presidency, however, was cut short by illness, leading to his vice president, José Sarney, taking office. Neves is remembered for his attempts to restore democracy and his significant role in the transition to a more open political system in Brazil.
