Mohammed Atef
Mohammed Atef was a senior military commander and one of the closest associates of Osama bin Laden within Al Qaeda. He played a crucial role in planning and executing several key terrorist operations, including the infamous attacks on U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998 and the USS Cole bombing in 2000. Known for his military expertise and operational leadership, Atef was instrumental in the organizational structure of Al Qaeda prior to the September 11 attacks. He was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan in November 2001, shortly after the onset of the U.S. military intervention in the region.
