Osama bin Laden was the founder of the militant organization al-Qaeda and was the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks in 2001, which killed nearly 3,000 people and led to significant global military and political repercussions. Bin Laden became one of the most wanted fugitives in the world and was killed by U.S. Navy SEALs in Pakistan in 2011.
