Jonathan ben Mattathias, also known as Jonathan the Hasmonean, was a key figure during the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BCE. He was the son of Mattathias and brother of Judah Maccabee. After the death of his brother, Jonathan became the leader of the Jewish forces and later served as a high priest, playing a crucial role in the establishment of the Hasmonean dynasty.
