Geronimo de Grados
A Spanish explorer sent by Antonio de Berrío, Geronimo de Grados was tasked with 'reducing' the Indigenous peoples of the Essequibo region and obtaining provisions from them. His expeditions in the early 17th century marked the last significant Spanish efforts to assert control over Essequibo before the region fell under Dutch and later British influence.
