Gastón Gaínza was a Chilean academic and theater expert who emigrated to Costa Rica following his detention after the 1973 coup. He contributed significantly to the fields of theater and semiotics as a professor at the University of Costa Rica and co-founded the Centro de Investigación en Identidad y Cultura Latinoamericanas.
