Abimael Guzmán Reynoso was the leader of the Shining Path, a Maoist guerrilla organization in Peru, known for its violent insurgency against the Peruvian government. His capture in 1992 marked a significant turning point in the fight against terrorism in the country, leading to a decline in the group's activities. Guzmán was incarcerated for life and died in prison in 2021.
