Philippe Le Bel

Philippe Le Bel, also known as Philip IV of France, was a king who reigned from 1285 to 1314. His reign is marked by significant political and economic reforms, as well as conflicts with the papacy, notably leading to the kidnapping of Pope Boniface VIII. Philippe is often remembered for his role in the suppression of the Knights Templar, culminating in their dissolution in 1312 and the execution of their leader, Jacques de Molay. His reign set the stage for the future tensions between the French monarchy and the church.
