Pavel Chinezu
Pavel Chinezu, born in 1432 in Satchinez, Banat, was a legendary figure in medieval Romanian military history. Known for his incredible strength and martial prowess, he rose from humble beginnings, possibly as the son of a miller or a nobleman, to become a notable commander in the Hungarian army under King Matei Corvin. His most famous exploits include his decisive role in the defense against the Ottoman incursions in 1479, where he led a small contingent to a remarkable victory against a larger Turkish force, earning him fame and admiration across Europe. His exploits were often recorded by chroniclers, highlighting his heroic feats, including a legendary dance with captured enemies, solidifying his status as a national hero. Pavel died in 1494 during the siege of Smederevo.
