Lucy McWorter

pioneer unknown

Lucy McWorter was the wife of Free Frank McWorter, and together they navigated the challenges of enslavement and the pursuit of freedom in early 19th century America. In 1817, with the help of her husband, she became one of the first people to gain her freedom in a time when such achievements were rare for African Americans. Lucy's emancipation set the stage for the couple's future endeavors, including the establishment of New Philadelphia, where they aimed to create a community that promoted equality and opportunity for all.
