Lê Thị Xuân is a Vietnamese woman who was married to Yoshiharu Shimizu, a Japanese soldier, during Japan's occupation of Vietnam in World War II. She is one of the few Vietnamese wives from these unions still alive as of the time photographer Phan Quang captured their family's portrait in 2014, representing the complexities and prejudices faced by their mixed-heritage children.
