K. Chathura Mihindum is the Director of the National Secretariat for Senior Citizens, operating under the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security, and Empowerment in Sri Lanka. He has been actively involved in the development of new regulations and guidelines aimed at enhancing the quality of care in senior citizen residential facilities, particularly in response to the challenges faced by the aging population, including mental health issues and physical disabilities. His recent initiatives include the establishment of specialized training for staff in elder care facilities to ensure the needs of the elderly, especially those with specific health conditions, are met with dignity and respect.
