José Orellano is a community leader from El Choloque, Peru, who has played a pivotal role in the conservation of dry forests in the region through the establishment of the Asociación de Protección de los Bosques Secos (Asprobos). Faced with the challenge of illegal logging and economic hardship, Orellano shifted focus from timber extraction to sustainable apiculture, leading local families to cultivate honey as a viable source of income and contributing significantly to the restoration of their natural environment.
