Fernando de Magalhaes
Fernando de Magalhaes, known in English as Ferdinand Magellan, was a Portuguese explorer who led the first expedition to successfully circumnavigate the globe. His journey, which began in 1519, was marked by significant hardships, including mutinies and conflicts with indigenous peoples. Magellan's life ended in the Philippines during the Battle of Mactán in 1521, where he was killed while attempting to subdue local resistance.
