Damien Merrigan
Damien Merrigan was a 49-year-old homeless man who suffered severe injuries from an unprovoked one-punch assault by Shane Murray in Dublin city center in September 2023. Merrigan, who was vulnerable at the time, spent seven days in Beaumont Hospital recovering from his injuries, which included head and facial fractures. He died in July 2025 from unrelated causes, and the court noted that his death was not connected to the assault.
