Anrê Phú Yên, born in 1625, is recognized as the first martyr of the Catholic Church in Vietnam. At the young age of 19, he dedicated his life to serving his community and assisting in the teaching of Christian doctrine under the guidance of missionary Alexandre de Rhodes. His unwavering faith led to his arrest and subsequent execution in 1644 for his beliefs. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2000, and his legacy continues to inspire many as a symbol of faith and sacrifice.
