Alisher Navoiy (1441-1501) was a prominent Uzbek poet, thinker, and statesman, often regarded as one of the greatest figures in Persian and Turkic literature. Born in Herat, he is best known for his works in Chagatai, a Turkic language, and for his contributions to Sufism.
