Alatina
Alatina was a Samoan Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) worker who tragically died in a fire caused by unattended cooking in his flat in Motueka on October 19, 2025. He was found to have died from smoke inhalation, with contributing factors including heavy drinking and the absence of working smoke alarms in his accommodation. Alatina had been in New Zealand since March 2025 for the third time under the RSE scheme and was remembered as a hardworking individual and a devoted family man, survived by his wife and four children.
